From the former makers of the MARVEL LEGENDS toy line (TOY BIZ) comes this sweet version of WOLVERINE that has always been a favorite costume of mine. In the comics, it was innovative for it's time, and as an action figure it deserves it's own display case.

These 2 figures represent a major event in the Marvel Universe this past year. CIVIL WAR put Captain America and Iron Man on separate sides of the law with heavy casualties that have forever shaken up the Marvel Universe. In the end, Captain America was murdered and the repercussions have yet to be seen. Now it's up to Robert Downey Jr. to bring Iron Man back as Americas savior.

The new and improved old school look of the latest 3 3/4" G.I. JOE line is not only sold out every where in the U.S., but all preorders for the up coming waves in 2008 have been filled. With tons more articulation, weapons, and accessories, G.I. Joe fans can relive their epic battles against Cobra, when they get home from work, and if their wives let them.

The crew of the ENTERPRISE D is one of the best ensembles of 2007. Each character is to scale with each other (ie. height and stature). The Next Generation has always fascinated me and Captain Picard is hands down the best Captain in the Star Trek Universe. That's right I said it! The only figure missing from this series is the Wesley Crusher figure played by Wil Wheaton. There's no reason for that.

These are the 3 best exclusives to come out of this line. From L-R, Casual Attire Counselor Troi, Locutus of Borg, and the Captains Jacket Captain Picard. The Locutus figure is the one that sets this line apart.

Okay, so it's not really a toy but this Air Jordan is the clever blend of the Air Jordan 3-7 with a sprinkle of the Air Jordan 21's. It was a Christmas present from my Wife. True Air Jordan fans love this twisted mixture of leather and goodness that has come out of this NIKE line as it is represented in one......expensive ass shoe.

These Samurai Champloo figures aren't the most articulated, but the cartoon itself is reason enough to snatch up these hard to get inaction figures. Other than the tight animation and insane story line, Champloo is a shout out to Okinawans everywhere and good food such as fried eel and rice dumplings. Always fight on a full stomach while searching for the one who smells like sunflowers (that's the plot by the way).

This polystone resin model of the BATTLESTAR GALACTICA was by far the hardest thing to get this year. The makers of this monstrosity didn't know how popular the show was going to be so they only made 500 pieces. Well, Battlestar Galactica became the Sci-Fi Channels flagship show and these Galactica statues sold faster than they were produced. After several attempts, I finally got this statue back in March. My Wife and I decided to use it as the champagne bottle to pop open once our daughter was born in April. It worked out beautifully.

The Nintendo Wii is awesome. It's how we stay in shape. Nuff said.

Thanks to my Sister and Bro-in-Law, FULL METAL ALCHEMIST was one of the best animation surprises of 2007. It's the touching story of 2 brothers who want their dead mother back and pay a hefty price along the way. The use of alchemy and heart wrenching story lines sucked me into this well drawn show. It's iconic in Japan and has only been out a few years. Now I have to share something awesome with my Sister to obey the laws of equivalent exchange.

Nobody saw this one coming. The series one Battlestar Galactica action figures are the absolute best figures to come out this decade. The micro detail, studio assisted design, multiple points of articulation, head sculpts, accessories, and packaging, are different than anything I've ever seen in 7" form. Series 2 is due in a month and they look even better. Although Battlestar is in it's last season, the possibilities for more action figures can sustain 9 or 10 more series.

Here's an example of the never-before-tried articulation in the legs and hip joints of this Apollo figure. Check out the gun and Viper helmet.

Typically, only 3 3/4" figures are this pose able. I'd write more about how cool this figure is but I rather go and play with it some more.

This past Friday was an exciting and hectic day for me. My good buddy Lee B. and his wife Jenny took me to Las Vegas to see LINKIN PARK for a private party for XBOX. I was 15 feet away from the stage and got to see the guys perform 3 songs and ROCK out hard. I only stayed one night at the Venetian and came back Sat morning.

The stage was right by one of the 6 pools at the hotel. As you can see it was the launch for HALO 3. Gamer fans out there would have given a limb to be here.

At 102 degrees at 11pm, LP cranked it up and got the crowd going. Here they're singing an appropriate song for the weather called "FAINT".

Here Mike Shinoda sings "BLEED IT OUT", their latest single.

I love knowing all of the words and singing along. It was hard not to.

FULL METAL FIGURES

This Edward figure by BANPRESTO is probably hard to appreciate unless you are holding it. Japanese toy companies put a lot of time and effort into the molding and coloring of their figures. That's why you pay more for them and that's why they made the blog. The seams of the molded PVC plastic are smooth and clean. American toys are nice but put together poorly and you can see where the mold was imperfect.

These Japanese figures are also molded in their final color, which means there is very little to paint after it has been pressed. For example, Ed's arm, torso and pants are different molded parts and only the belt and watch were painted. The result is a perfect blend of color and longevity.

Even the detail on the eyes are amazing. In true Anime fashion, the eyes are what makes the character. To transfer that into plastic is a huge feat in itself.

This Alphonse figure has 16 points of articulation and comes with different hands and a little cat. He's probably my favorite character so far and this high quality figure justifies that.

Although it looks bulky, this figure has super pose ability and prepares for a night of alchemy.

Again, the detail in the eyes show the sadness of this poor guy.

THE BEST ANIME UR NOT WATCHING

FULL METAL ALCHEMIST is a new discovery that has been recommended to me recently. It's been out for a while and I regret not getting into it sooner. Click HERE for a quick preview that will not do it any justice. Trust me when I say that this is one of the top Anime out there.
It is the tragic story of 2 brothers, Edward and Alphonse Elric, who try to bring their dead mother back to life and pay a devastating price for their tampering. The two brothers try to use Alchemy (the science of equivalent exchange) and combine all of the elements and ingredients in the human body. However, they did not have a soul to glue it all together and created an explosion that took Edward's arm and leg and transported Alphonse's soul into a suit of armor. That's just the first 3 minutes of the first episode. I love it because it is smart and serious. I'll have pics of the action figures as soon as they come in the mail. Check back soon.

SAN DIEGO COMIC-CON 07 PART 1

The Legendary George Takei was on hand signing autographs and promoting his new SULU action figure from DIAMOND SELECT TOYS. They are the same company making the Battlestar figures so everyone was very excited. I was in line with every STARFLEET OFFICER in SAN DIEGO.

George signed a SULU figure for me and was kind enough to pose for this picture. He's a great sport and still embraces the T.V. series that's made him very, very rich. Hey, where's my other hand?
This was a huge treat for my Sister and I. We were big fans of a children's show called READING RAINBOW hosted by LEVAR BURTON. I told him this and introduced him to my Sister and he said his tag lines to us, "We'll see you next time", and "But you don't have to take my word for it." That made us scream. Levar is a great guy and was the best part of convention.

Here's every TREK fans dream come true. Marina Sirtis who played Counselor Troi made a super rare appearance along side Levar. She was wearing black......that's all I remember and was very sweet.

John de Lancie played a mischievous character named Q on STAR TREK. He was coughing a lot and it made me nervous to take this picture. It's ok though, I held my breath the whole time.

ELVIRA Mistress of the Dark was in full gear to promote some of her new something or other, I don't remember because I wasn't paying attention. My Sister wanted to get a good look at how Elvira has been holding up over the years. They looked fine to me.

Dean Haglund played LANGLEY, one of the LONE GUNMEN, on the X-FILES. He was really nice and suggested I take the train to San Diego next time and enjoy the commute for once. When he isn't helping Agent Moulder and Scully, Dean is helping me out. THANKS DEAN!!

Cliff Simon plays Baal on STARGATE SG-1. He's a great character that you love to hate. He got a kick watching me get all flustered with Elvira and somehow make my way over to him. Cliff was a real charmer.

SAN DIEGO COMIC-CON 07 PART 2

This is how our day started. I took a pic with this T.I.E. pilot who was very stoic and obviously much cooler than me. I would trade anything for my shorts, shirt, and bag for a heavy helmet, unbalanced chest plate, and hot and muggy black jumpsuit.
Here's my Sister with a lego SPONGE BOB SQUARE PANTS. My Sister is on the Right......with the bag........on her left shoulder..........with the jeans.
This is an old favorite from G.I. Joe and old school wrestling, SGT. Slaughter. He was on hand celebrating the 25th anniversary of G.I. Joe and was being interviewed for some college project.
This was one of the cooler and more intimidating costumes at the con. This 7 foot Korean guy was dressed as a newly burnt up Anakin Skywalker from REVENGE OF THE SITH. His make up was great. Maybe a little too good. My Sister and I thought we smelled Korean BBQ when he walked by.
This was a huge OPTIMUS PRIME statue from the Transformers movie. Funny, it was much cooler in person.
This was a great surprise from famous toy maker HASBRO. They were hinting at a new line of INDIANA JONES action figures from the new movie and old. The line looks to be promising and was a big deal at the booth.

This is a Han Solo in Stormtrooper disguise life size statue from TOY ROCKET. It has a red sticker price tag on the left shoulder for $8,000. I know there was a nerd who bought it and used it to drive in the carpool lane and brought it back to his one room apartment where he could eat dinner with it and pretend to be a Luke Skywalker drowning in the trash compactor after saving Princess Leia from further interrogation and eventual death. Oh yeah.......it happened alright.

These life size SIMPSON characters were just standing around and it's always fun to watch a herd of people mob each other for a quick glimpse of these plush T.V. icons.

This is an 80's character from ROBOTECH named Scott Bernard. It's a super articulated and detailed figure that I had to put in here. Plus, I always e-mail a certain friend of mine to look at my pathetic blog and I figured I'd throw him a bone on this one. I won't mention his name because it would kill him, but this one is for you........KISNER!!!!!!!

Here's the same figure with his CYCLONE armor on. When I was a kid and saw this for the first time, it made me want to ride my bike and wish it transformed to protect me as well. Unfortunately, when I would wish for it I would close my eyes while riding my bike and ran into a wall. End of story.

I'm going to make this simple. The green guy and red,black, and white chick are from the DC universe while Spiderman is from the Marvel Universe. My camera shouldn't have been able to take this picture. It must have been the quantum flux that allowed this transgression to occur. The flux also made the Spiderman guy look like he wore that costume more often than not, resulting in a faded spidey suit. Or it was just the flash on my camera.

This clever fellow is playing a guy with his d*ck in a box. This now begins the weird part of the blog entry.

This guy was 4 feet tall and dressed as DARTH MAUL from STAR WARS. My Sister appropriately renamed him DARTH SMAUL. It's all true, from a certain point of view.

This was the only IRON MAN I saw that was made of card board, underoos, cut up Big Gulp cups from 7/11, and Elmer's glue. Gear like this is sooooo complicated that if he has to go to the bathroom.....he just goes man. He's stopping ME so I can take his picture. Lucky me.

Here's part of the INSANE stash I compiled from the CONVENTION. My pride and joy is the white boxed figure from BATTLESTAR GALACTICA. It's a prototype figure of CHIEF TYROL. The exclusive "300" DVD, Battlestar figures and die cast vehicles were a bonus as well.

More cool stuff like the limited edition WRATH OF KHAN figures and the first ever STAN LEE figure. When you get the 4 WRATH OF KHAN figures, you get a free BURNT UP KHAN figure. That's what you get when you take on the Enterprise and try to fire phasers in a nebula that renders your radar useless. Don't mess with the bully Khan, you'll get the horns. Let's face it, Captain Kirk was smarter...and was also the Executive producer on the film, so Khan never had a chance.

TRANSFORMERS REVIEW

I just came back from watching TRANSFORMERS the movie and I can confidently say that I was very impressed with it. All the hype and buzz around it could have made this movie a complete flop but the back story and plot actually kept me invested. Anytime you deal with origin and first appearances, there has to be a lot of drama and revelation. It moved slow here and there but made up for it with outstanding visual effects and devastating action sequences. I completely bought it. It was a loud ass movie with great gadgets and an arsenal of weapons only a pyromaniac could envision. It was more of a childhood fantasy to see Optimus Prime on the big screen and not die this time. There is a lot of death and I would not suggest this movie for kids. In all I give it a thumbs up that transforms into......a bigger thumbs up. I loved this movie as did the 8 year old kid in me.
Forget the robots, Megan Fox who played............I forgot her name but she was in most of the movie. My wife thinks she's hot so it's ok for me to discuss her further.

Wow, here she is again. I didn't have to search online for 15 minutes to find this picture.

Here's the TRANSFORMERS as I remember them in their simple robotic glory. They still hold up by today's standards.

If you haven't seen it by now, you're going to love this show. Hell's Kitchen is the brain child of the devilish Chef Gordon Ramsay. I love this show for it's brutality. Chef Ramsay curses, spits, and throws food at his aspiring chefs. Why do I love his aggression? The harder he is on them the less likely we are of gettings food poisoning. When you look at it that way, he can do whatever he likes. After he kicks a chef of of his show he tells them to F-off and takes their jacket and burns their picture.
Here's the man at a book signing and restaurant opening in the UK. If I ever met this guy, I gladly shake his hand and pray that he would curse at me. That would make my day.

On Saturday March 31st, my good buddy/guitar teacher, TODD CAREY performed at the Apple Store on the 3rd street promenade in Santa Monica. As a family, one of the greatest joys we can share together is watching Todd play. His songs make you feel good about yourself while listening to the lyrics that are brilliantly crafted. I know how much Todd puts into his music and his passion for life in infectious. His recent album launched last Tues (3/27) and I've already got the words down. We had front row seats so we could experience the full effect of the "iTODD".

Watching Todd play is awesome. It sounds like there's 5 people playing. Customers in the store stopped what they were doing and got sucked in by the INSANE guitar playing. One of the Apple store employees (who sees a lot of performances) went up to Todd after the show and told him how fantastic he was. That's Todd's nature. He's exciting to watch, approachable, and very appreciative of all that comes to him. Thanks for the uplifting time SENSEI!!!!

WIZARD WORLD L.A.

These are pics from the weekend long WIZARD WORLD TOUR. A few major toy companies and comic book outlets, and artists were in attendance. But the real reason to go is for the celebs that make the time to........make some extra cash.

This drawing was done by a good friend of my Bro-in-Law named CHEEKS. He's super talented and is going to be huge very soon. Not only is that my opinion, but it's also a fact. Stay tuned.

I bought this Battlestar Galactica sketch for my wife of Apollo next to his Viper Mark II. We both agreed it's going in the baby room. That way she can look at it while she nurses. Weird.

This was the meet and greet of the day for me. Luis Gossett Jr. was there for pics and autographs. He was a great guy and actually looked thrilled to be there.

Paul Rubens (Pee Wee Herman) and David Arquette (Nobody) were signing stuff for anybody.

Kristin Bell (Veronica Mars) was another good sport. I think she could be the most photogenic person in the world. Nice girl.

I don't know who these guys are but they were kind enough to let me take a picture of them.

The DEMON (Gene Simmons) and Son were also there to promote KISS COMIX. All of the girls went after him because.............there was a camera crew following his every move.

This is my good buddy Lee. he's preparing for an afternoon full of brilliance and creativity. We both had this idea to make short movies using my Star Trek action figures and make do horrible things. He was kind enough to open up his home for such an event.
Here, Patrick Stewart (Captain Picard) and his Borg twin (Locutus) rehearse for their scene in front of a intergalactic HOMETOWN BUFFET. It's a long story.

HOME-MADE-HERO

This is my friend JASPER. He was kind enough to bring his project to the gym to show me. We had discussed making a bow and arrow more efficient and he went and made a bigger and better one than we had discussed. AMAZING! Complete with arrows, quiver, and target, Jasper put it all together and has been testing it at home. I enjoy seeing his creativity and how his Mom gives him all of the tools and support to do so. His next project might be a cross bow. I can't wait to see what great invention he comes up with next.

In the latest issue of Toyfare magazine, these beautiful Battlestar Galactica figures were unveiled. I am beyond excited at these super detailed figs from Diamond Select (Star Trek and SG-1). Due to the overwhelming success of Galactica for the Sci-Fi network, a slew of new figures have been planned. Although still pending approval, Diamond Select usually gets what they want and do a fine job of it as well. I'm making a display shelf for these masterpieces today. BSG figs due Summer 2007.

UPDATE (3/18):

I spoke to the Diamond Select reps at Wizard Con this past weekend and they told me that the Battlestar License was SECURED and that their first BSG figure would be CHIEF GALEN TYROL at the upcoming San Diego Comic Con. Also the other figures would be due out shortly after. The important news was that the licensing was a done deal. BOO YEAH!!!

NEW BSG PROJECT

I just got this RESIN KIT Battlestar Galactica GUN prop on ebay. It's a solid cast model and needs A LOT of work. It feels pretty heavy but I'll have to do the folowing:

-Drill out the barrel and explosive round lanching tube.
-Add weight in the handle for better balance and realism.
-Clean up all joint and seams.
-Retrace and scribe the handle and trigger.
-Sand, prime and finish in proper colors.
-GET A LIFE!
This is going to be fun and challenging. I'm going to go all the way with this model and strive for accuracy. Check for updates soon.

MOVIE REVIEW

I was pleasantly surprised by 300. I knew it would be ultra violent but I didn't expect it to be presented so brilliantly. The cinematography, fighting sequences, story, and wardrobe was outstanding. All you have to know is that there were 300 brave Spartans who followed their KING LEONIDAS (played by Gerard Butler)to battle the dark and overwhelming oppression of Lord XERXES, the self appointed ruler and god of their land. How the story unfolds is awesome and unbelievable. I highly recommend this movie for it's great emotional and political statements. What is a King without a strong Queen? Queen Gorgo is not only fun to look at but you also respect her for her strength and love for her King and country. She is thrust into some insane and hopeless situations and I love the way she deals with them. Lena Headey gives a commanding and memorable performance of the Spartan Queen.

Of course there are action figures for this great movie, thus validating it's quality and success. CLICK HERE for more photos of these highly detailed figures.

NEW AND IMPROVED

I made a new SPRAY BOX a few weekends ago. This one is deeper and dust proof with better lighting, ventilation, and a new plexiglass barrier.
I added this protective roofing on the fan to keep the dust and rain away. Genius!

This is a lot brighter than it looks.....kinda like me.

Isn't it beautiful? I'll be putting it to the test later this week when I resume painting my prized ENTERPRISE model. Life's good!

Check out my new spraybox. It's to shield my painted plastic parts as they dry and stay dust free. But wait, there's more.
I added a bathroom ceiling fan on the top to suck out all of the harmful aerosol spray and built a vent tube to keep it away from me.

Inside the box I added a little light and covered the fan with a little vent. Now I can spray at night and airbrush with talent. AMAZING, if I do say so myself.

Last night was another energetic and exciting performance at THE HOTEL CAFE by my good buddy TODD CAREY. He is launching his new record in late March and all who attended were treated to a preview up his upcoming works.
As a fan and friend, I have to say that his music makes me feel good about myself. It's a true gift he possesses.
As a little bonus, STEVE PERRY (lead singer of JOURNEY) was there to cheer TODD on. I was able to meet Steve and thank him for making the kind of music that has inspired me over the years. He was extremely kind and appreciative of my praise and nervousness. WHAT A NIGHT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I just received this is the mail the other day from Lordoftherings.net. It's Sauron's one ring and finger. It was cut off during battle and retrieved by Isildur, son of Elendil. It's a huge display made by Master Replicas.
It's kind of hard to tell in this shot, but the ring lights up in the words of Mordor which I dare not utter here. It's a great way start off 2007. My daughter will love it or learn to fear it. Either way, she'll always remember it.

All About the BABY

Today Mari and I visited the PUMP STATION in Santa Monica. It's only a few blocks from where I work so when we take our birthing classes there, it'll be really convenient.
Mari's holding a tube of Butt Paste for skin rashes and irritation. I think she made a crack about needing it for my jokes.

Here Mari's pointing at a bra with a breast pump hanging off of it. I didn't have the nerve or the heart to take a pic of it so you'll have to trust me when I say it looked like a steady cam that attaches to your chest with tubes and junk.

Mari thought this would be a great outfit for me to wear at the gym.

We then ventured to the City of Industry for a huge weekly Toy and Comic convention. It's awesome except for one small thing..........it's in the CITY OF INDUSTRY!

At the La Puente Mall, we came across our favorite creme puff shop Beard Papa. We got a couple of cheesecake sticks to go. They were actually pretty healthy and lite.

Our next stop was at the baby section of Toy R Us. This Curious George is the same height that I was........in college. But back then I wore clothes and had more hair.

This baby car seat / stroller seat was awesome and got a great rating by the consumer guide.

This is the stroller we're going to get. It really easy to use and the seat pops in and out. It rides smoothly and folds up in a snap. What a great day of discoveries....even if we had to be in La Puente. I'm so 310.

This nexy Harry Potter movie will be dark and someone we all love will die. I've said tooo much.
This Transformers movie looks cool, but so did the trailer for X-Men 3. I'll give it a shot since the concept is ridiculously cool and a nastalgic one at that. If it sucks, I hope I can transform my ticket stub into a refund.
Spiderman 3 has no choice but to be fantastic. It's going to kill box office records and blow me away. I hope there's carnage and webby things.
This next RAMBO movie is going to suck because how can Rambo still run with an enlarged prostate and shoot a gun without his teeth falling out. I love Sly but come on man.

Here the mighty Gandalf the Grey has a fateful battle with a Balrog of Morgoth in the bottommost caverns of Khazad-dum. He keeps the Balrog at bay and allows the Fellowship of the Ring to escape. Although Gandalf the Grey perishes in this legendary stand-off, he is reborn Gandalf the White (see below). During the confrontation, Gandalf yells, "You shall not pass".
I think he was also refering to my 13 year old cousin regarding his math, science and history class. That was nice.
A true Lord of the Rings fan will appreciate the lighting and coloring I used to take this picture since the Balrog is made of pure fire, thus reflecting it's treacherous glow upon Gandalf. BRILLIANT!!!!!!!
Gandalf the White came back to Middle Earth for one final battle against the evil Lord Sauron. His guidance and wisdom kept Minas Tirith standing and the armies of men inspired. Gandalf was later rewarded by the elves and given safe passage to the undying lands for all eternity. I think it would of been cool to have given Gandalf powers of magnetism. That way he could bunch up of the armored trolls, orcs, and uruk-hai and smash them together until their eyes popped out. Or make them hit themselves in the face with their swords and axes. And that way he could say things like, "Quit hitting yourself, quit hitting yourself." That would have been better......yeah it would.

THE EVIL OF MIDDLE EARTH

The dark lord of Mordor only made a brief appearance in physical form and was later represented as an all seeing eye. A master of deception and powerful dark magic, Sauron poured all of his essence into his ring of power that could control all. When his finger was cut off in battle, his ring was recovered by Prince Isildur who could not resist it's evil. Had Isildur destroyed the ring that day, middle earth would have been rid of Sauron for good. But that would make for a crappy and short movie, so I'm glad he was a jerk.
This is the Nazgul Witch-King of Angmar. He was Sauron's greatest Ringwraith and could not be killed by any man. As fierce and malicious as he was, he ended up getting killed, stabbed in the face to be exact, by a girl. You get it? He can't be killed by a man, but a woman could send him back to the depths of Mordor. That's weak.
Smeagol, as he was known before the ring consumed him, was a simple hobbit who loved to fish. He and his pal were fishing one day, found the ring, fought over the ring, and Smeagol ended up choking his friend to death. He later went insane and lived for his Prescious ring.

LORD OF THE SWEET ASS FIGURES

This is part of my LORD OF THE RINGS collection. Most of these figures are highly detailed and come with 20 points of articulation. To the normal, socially adjusted person that means nothing, but to me, it's fantastic. This STRIDER figure above (A.K.A. Aragorn) actually came with a bow and arrow, but with some minor tweaking and two cups of pure creativity, he's able to hold his ranger sword and cut things down in Middle Earth. Equipped with his ranger cloak and sleeping bag, Aragorn is always ready for a slumber party. I like his bangs.
This is a cooler verison of ARAGORN as he comes to realize his destiny as the Heir of GONDOR. He weilds ANDURIL "The Flame of the West" forged from the SHARDS OF NARSIL (I"ll explain later) by the elves. Only the rightful Heir can command such a sword and the responsibility that accompanies it. That was poetic. This figure can also be put on a horse and looks awesome on my dashboard.
Although he only makes a few appearances in the last 2 movies, Faramir is my favorite character in the trilogy. His story is sad and he struggles with his father who has never shown him love or appreciation. Faramir almost dies trying to win the respect of his insane father. He captures Frodo and Sam and allows them to continue on their journey to destroy the ring. My wife thinks he's a wuss but I think he was the strong and determined. He also got a hot chick in the end.
Gandalf the Grey gave his life and was reborn as Gandalf the White. He returned one final time to help uphold Minas Tirith in the greatest battle of the Third Age in Middle Earth. The he left........on a cruise to the great panama canal of the undying lands with a stop over in barbados .
Frodo and Sam are the main characters and my least favorite. I'm usually a fan of tangent characters who are often more entertaining. Although their purpose was great, their story was predictable. But don't blame the action figures. I watched RUDY the other day and FOREVER YOUNG just so Sean Astin and Elijah Wood could be appealing again.
In the great battle vs. the evil LORD SAURON, King Elendil and his son Isildur gathered a mighty army of men and Elves. Sauron was defeated but Elendil was killed. He sword, the NARSIL was shattered and the fragments were used to defeat SAURON by cutting off his finger and his ring of power. Isildur found the ring and was corrupted by it, thus leading to the great battle of the third age. The ring has since been called Isildur's Bane. I typed that from memory. That is sooooo sad.
The mighty Elf lords Gil-galad and Elrond fought along side Elendil and Isildur against SAURON. Gil-galad perished and Elrond pleaded with Isildur to destroy the ring. Isildur refused and took the ring back to Gondor where he was ambushed and lost it. Hence the Elves distrust in man and man's tarnished reputation. It would be Aragorn who would rise from the ashes to bring humanity back to Middle Earth and make out with Liv Tyler all day long. Bastard!

New York Giant's Tiki Barber (after whom my daughter was named) is a joy to watch on and off the field. He's a good guy and that makes me like him. Oh yeah and he's not that tall.

This is my version of what was supposed to be my sister's birthday present this year.

My wife calls me one day and informs me that Tenacious D will be playing at the Gibson.

I immediately go online to purchase tickets for my sister, my wife, and myself.

I see that there are 2 dates...........Nov 17th (FRIDAY) and Nov 18th (SAT, the day I want)

My Mom's birthday is on Nov 16th (THURS) so I make a mental note to apologize to her for going to a concert on her birthday weekend. The Friday show is out because traffic will be nutty.

So I purchase tickets for what I think is the Nov 18th Saturday show and print the tickets out at home and make several copies in case I lose one set. I'm anal that way.

In my mind I have tickets for the Saturday show....................or do I?

Weeks go by and my wife ends up not going since she is a bit under the weather and pregnant.

On the night of the concert my sister and I meet at my Mom's house, have dinner at 6pm, and are out the door by 6:45pm just like I planned (I'm a stickler for timing).

We get to the Gibson in Universal city with time to spare and even go to the preferred parking which was awesome.

We plan ahead and go to the bathroom before the show and walk to the ticket scanning line.

We get frisked at the security line and make our way to the entrance..................

We pull out the printed tickets and I watch in horror as the ticket guy scans our tickets and can't get a reading on them.

He looks at me and says, "Oh man, these tickets are for the show YESTERDAY."

(Insert - colorful curse words and combos accompanied with major embarrassment.)

MY HEART SANK mostly because I let my little sister down and all that planning, preferred parking and every other detail went flawlessly.

I couldn't believe it. I had the bought tickets for the wrong day and never double checked, which is completely unlike me.

Although my sister was gracious about it, we were both SEVERELY bummed and slowly made our way back to the car in a disappointed daze.

We made one last ditch effort to see if there were any seats left at the box office and all I could think about was the look on my sister's face.

Luckily we got tickets and had pretty good seats in the balcony.....but my sister paid for the tickets. What a wonderful brother I am. I gave the gift of NOTHING-NESS and DESPAIR.

The show rocked but the vibe of my fateful mistake still stings like a mugga.

FIGURES IN CRISIS

These next batch of sweet ass figures are from a comic called "Crisis on Infinite Earths" where the two guys above (L-The Antimonitor and R-The Monitor) fight for their existence and recruit the world's greatest super heroes from multiple universes for their war. Sounds confusing? Well it was and is and forever shall be. Anyways, the figures are cool even though the story was convoluted.
This figure is called HARBINGER and she plays on both sides of the war until she ultimately gives her life to make up for her wrong doings. Poetic and sad for a hot chick.
This is an older SUPERMAN from a different Earth. You don't even wanna know.
As you can see, the FLASH is all old and wrinkled due to a rip in time and space while BATMAN retains his good looks and painted eyebrows. I'm not sure because it was confusing, but I think the Flash died.
This is PSYCHO PIRATE (weak ass name). He is the tool of the ANTIMONITOR and ends up going insane. Fitting huh? He can control peoples emotions with his mask and is the comic version of Dr. Phil, except not as jerky.
This is SUPERGIRL or Kara as she is known in the books. She is SUPERMAN's distant cousin from Krypton and gives her life to save her friends. This was a shocking moment in the story and was the only thing that made sense.
Of course there always has to be bad guys. Don't they just look evil? LEX LUTHOR sports the latest in the Kryptonite jackets from DKNY and BRAINIAC sports the old naked titanium terminator look.

What if Superman crash landed in the Soviet Union back in the day? Well, in "Superman Red Son", the U.S.S.R. unleashes him upon the world as their ultimate nuclear weapon. The U.S.A. is number 2 and Superman would eventually become the leader on the world. This book was an interesting hypothesis but was poorly written and became histrionic. Mother Russia should be ashamed.
I love this creative Russian/Kryptonian symbol.
The concepts were fascinating but the story was weak.

Is Superman good or evil? You'll have to read the book to find out. Just kidding, he sees the many flaws in a dictatorship and brings down communism and becomes a good guy.
The Batman is a terrorist who opposes Superman/Communism and ends up blowing himself up for his cause. That was pretty retarded. Party because like Batman more.
The best thing about this design is the hat and bat symbol on the chest. Remember it's cold in Russia and tights would be a bad idea.

Quite possibly one of my favorite graphic novels of all time, KINGDOM COME by Alex Ross, is one of the few super hero stories that puts a real world perspective on the heroes of old. Other than the fantastic art work and design, this story focuses on a society where super heroes have lost their sense of responsibility and mercilessly fight villains with total disregard for human life. Superman comes out of his self imposed exhile to bring order to the new world. Although he and his new team of heroes are trying to get the world back on track, they are also fulfilling a prophecy of Armageddon. The story telling is intense and worthy of these great action figures.

These are the prizes of this collection. The SPECTRE (left) and NORMAN MCCRAY (right) are the only 2 aware of the future. The Norman character is based on Alex Ross's father who was the model and inspiration for this story.
One of my favorite renditions of an older and wiser Superman. The "S" on his chest is a total departure and a bold move. I think the black background and sleek style are very appropriate to the darker story line and turn of events.

What you are about to see is 1 of 1,000 Special Limited Edition Superman figures from MEDICOM. This is a super articulated 12inch figure that is made by this Japanese toy company known for it's rare exclusives. I don't want to even say how I got one but I ordered it over 3 months ago. The sculpting and detail is outstanding. The clothes are insanely accurate to the movie and the proportion is specific to the actor (Brandon Routh) who played SUPERMAN.
I'm kinda proud of this pose that I took here. This is my favorite figure so far.

A LITTLE OFF TOPIC

I had to take a minute and mention one of the best comics out right now. JUSTICE by Alex Ross is not only well written (for a comic book) but the art and the dedication that goes behind each scene in numbing. Alex Ross paints with realism and is one of the last artists to remain true to this style. Each scene is heavily researched and has a photo reference that goes along with it. Anyway, it's ridiculous and I love it.
I have this poster hanging on the wall at home. I love how detailed it is and how the costumes make sense. In the Justice story line, the villains tear the Justice league to shreds. It's only 7 issues deep of a 12 part series. So far it looks pretty bad for the good guys.
Of course there are action figures for this popular line. You can't find them anywhere. Each 7 inch figure comes with a display base and exclusive item. I'll be posting the bad guys soon.
